Little BIG Personalities, a portrait project
They might be little, but they pack a LOT of personality. These sessions are intended to capture who your child is, right now. Their happy, their curious, their silly, their sad…even their mad! Maybe they are stoic with a silly side. Or big hearted and love to perform. Maybe they’re a little shy and wildly observant. No matter their personality, they’re nothing short of magic..and this time is so fleeting.
This is a portrait project near and dear to my heart, and it stems from way back when I first felt inspired to pick up my camera and learn how to photograph my kids. My drive to perfect my skills as I was learning, came from my desire to capture every single detail I possibly could.
I knew that they were changing rapidly right before my eyes, and I was obsessed with freezing them in time as they went. I wanted so badly to be able to look back one day in the future and be reminded of all of their ages and stages that helped build them into the person they would become.
I am so grateful now for those images. They transport me back in time, but also connect me to my children right here and now in the present. I am reminded of certain personality traits of theirs today, that were present all along. Looking at those images and having that visual trigger to their past, then seeing them now before me – adolescents who are really coming into themselves – just about makes me burst with pride.
Over the past eight years as a family photographer, I’ve filled my tool chest with tried and true tricks for prompting the best expressions from children. In my studio, against a neutral backdrop, their personalities can really shine!
